Scientific Research

I-BioStat brings together research efforts in biostatistics, statistical bioinformatics, statistical genetics, mathematical statistics, and statistical methods in public health and epidemiology.
Key research lines include statistical and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases, longitudinal and hierarchical data analysis, incomplete data analysis, correlated and censored survival data, surrogate marker evaluation in clinical studies, microbial risk assessment, methodology for the design and analysis of microarrays, Bayesian data analysis, survey methodology, psychometric methodology, and statistical education, etc.

Next to university-based funding, research support is attracted from the (biopharmaceutical) industry, the regional and federal government, Europe, and international funding agencies.

A variety of cross-links exists between both entities of I-BioStat, CenStat at UHasselt and L-BioStat at K.U.Leuven, as well as with academic, governmental, and industrial partners worldwide.

Various researchers have received honors and awards based on their research.
